Advancing Plankton Research: Helmholtz Imaging’s Collaborative Datathon at MDC Berlin
Helmholtz Imaging hosted a plankton image Datathon at MDC-BIMSB in Berlin. Between June 24 and 28, researchers from the Helmholtz Imaging Units at MDC and DKFZ joined forces with scientists from HEREON and GEOMAR to establish a large and diverse dataset of plankton images to serve as training data for an aquatic life foundation model. We aimed to establish an initial dataset of 100 million images from different imaging modalities and to discuss domain-specific details for the training and evaluation of the foundation model.
The event is part of the Aquatic Life Foundation Project, involving researchers from MDC, GEOMAR, HEREON, AWI, UFZ, and Helmholtz Imaging. The project was launched following the meeting and formation of the Pelagic Imaging Consortium in the fall of 2023, which brought together plankton researchers from five Helmholtz Centers and Helmholtz Imaging.
New Blog Post on CONNECT: UTILE-Oxy Transforms Hydrogen Production with Deep Learning
Discover how deep learning enhances hydrogen production for better efficiency & insights on our blog section on CONNECT in our latest post, “UTILE-Oxy – Deep Learning to Automate Video Analysis of Bubble Dynamics.” This pioneering study by André Colliard Granero and team uses advanced AI to optimize bubble dynamics in electrolyzers, achieving up to 95% precision with rapid analysis enhancements.
UTILE is a Helmholtz Imaging Project aiming at developing a data platform for energy materials that automates and thus accelerates and improves the collection, analysis and management of valuable image data from diverse characterization methods across the scientific community using AI.
