What We’re Looking For

The call welcomes high-risk, high-gain project proposals that tackle imaging challenges across disciplines and drive innovation along the imaging pipeline. Projects that aim to generalize imaging solutions across domains can apply for up to €100,000 additional funding via a dedicated track.
Funding is open to projects involving at least two Helmholtz Centers, with optional participation of external partners.

What We Offer

Beyond funding, selected projects benefit from:

  • Scientific and technical consultation from Helmholtz Imaging’s Support and Research Units.
  • Help from HIFIS for cloud deployment, FAIR research software standards, and software development best practices.
  • Support for disseminating results as open-source Helmholtz Imaging Solutions.
  • Access to HAICORE computing resources.
  • Connection to the CONNECT database for sustainable visibility and knowledge sharing.

Goals

  • Promote imaging science through novel methods in information & data science, leveraging synergies across imaging modalities and applications.
  • Foster cross-disciplinary research and method transfer between scientific domains (across Helmholtz research fields) and sectors (e.g., industry, NGOs, civil society), and provide seed funding for innovative ideas.
  • Empower early career scientists, and strengthen networking, community building, and knowledge transfer across the Helmholtz Centers and Helmholtz Imaging network.

How to Apply

Proposals can be submitted via our portal starting June 1, 2025.

All documents and templates are available here. You can also access them via the Helmholtz website.

This call is funded by the Helmholtz Initiative and Networking Fund.
