Helmholtz Imaging is moving to Matrix

Anyone who knows the movie The Matrix knows: the red pill stands for seeing reality as it is, a moment of revelation and a step into something new.

For Helmholtz Imaging, that next step is quite practical: we are moving our community communication from Mattermost to Matrix, entirely without the need to take a red pill.

Our current Mattermost channel will be shut down by the end of June. After that, we will no longer use Mattermost for Helmholtz Imaging community communication.

Please note: once Mattermost is shut down, the channel and all information stored there will no longer be accessible. If there is anything you would like to keep, please make sure to save it beforehand.

Why are we moving?

Like the rest of Helmholtz, we are transitioning to Matrix because Mattermost is no longer available free of charge for academic use. HIFIS now provides a Helmholtz-wide Matrix service, which will become our new communication channel for community updates, exchange, and sharing.

Why Matrix?

Matrix is an open standard and communication protocol that enables worldwide connectivity and helps prevent vendor lock-in. It allows federation with other Matrix instances, offers end-to-end encryption, and is available through various clients for web, desktop, and mobile. With an active community and continuous development, Matrix provides a future-oriented communication environment for Helmholtz.

How to join?

Questions? Please consult the HIFIS information on how to get started with Matrix or contact us by email. We are happy to help.

We look forward to seeing you in the Matrix! 😉
